In the overall quest for improving a vessel’s fuel efficiency it is necessary to measure and analyze the vessel’s overall baseline performance. There is no question that adding hydroxy gas to a diesel engine has a number of advantages and benefits. The hydroxy mixes with the diesel fuel and creates a more complete burn providing better combustion. More combustion means more of the diesel fuel burned providing more horsepower and less exhaust emissions. With more of the diesel fuel burned you also have less soot that creates havoc on the engine lube oil. With less soot and carbon in the lube oil there is less wear in the engine for extended longevity. Another advantage is, in some cases, the diesel fuel is not the highest of quality so the hydroxy simply increases its value, much like adding a high octane additive to poor quality gasoline.
