BlueFlow Sail

BlueFlow Sail, a sailors navigation tool that fits in the palm of your hand.

BlueFlow Sail gives you, the sailor, the ability to specify a desired course or destination and by that calculate the speed of your course and speed towards your destination.

Together with your SOG (Speed Over Ground), your course, and your speed towards your destination, VMG (Velocity Made Good), you can optimize your angle to the wind to get as high speed as possible towards your destination.

Using this little ingenious tool you can also tell if you should do a port or starboard tack when beating the wind.

These features are included in the Blue Flow Sail:

  • Speed, SOG (Speed Over Ground)
  • Speed towards destination or desired course, VMG (Velocity Made Good)
  • How much you should turn, port or starboard, to maintain desired course, Turn
  • Your course, COG (Course Over Ground)
  • Your bearing towards the destination, BRG
  • Distance to destination
  • Odometer that can be reset

  • Estimated time of arrival
  • Time to target
As an example, let us say that you would like to sail from Miami, Florida to South Bimini at the Bahamas. You enter the position of a port in South Bimini in BlueFlow Sail and then simply just follow the course (BRG). You will receive information about the estimated time of arrival and your current speed towards your destination, VMG.


System Requirements

In order to run BlueFlow Sail on your cell phone, you need a compatible mobile phone with an internal GPS or an external Bluetooth GPS. You can also buy a Bluetooth GPS from us.

We support the most recent Sony Ericsson and Nokia cell phones. It is necessary that they have support for Java MIDP and an internal GPS or Java Bluetooth API (JSR-82) if you're using an external Bluetooth GPS. The phone should support a resolution  of 176x220 or 240x320 pixels.
